The fire started on the ground floor of a building in Vasant Vihar’s C Block Market and quickly spread to the mezzanine and first floors.

Officials believe the fire was caused by a short circuit.

Meanwhile, on June 13, Firefighters worked through the night in sweltering heat to control a massive fire that destroyed over 50 shops in the densely populated Chandni Chowk area of north Delhi. Flames were still smoldering beneath some collapsed sections of buildings, and a cooling operation is underway, officials reported on Friday. The fire erupted in Old Katra Marwadi Market around 5 pm on Thursday. Fortunately, there were no casualties.

Delhi Fire Services (DFS) chief Atul Garg stated that the fire was brought under control by 4:30 am. “Eight fire tenders have been deployed for the cooling operation. Over 50 fire tenders and 200 personnel worked through the night to control the blaze,” he said.

The inferno gutted more than 50 small and large shops, and two buildings housing multiple shops, including the one where the fire originated, collapsed due to the intense heat. Small fires continue to smolder in combustible materials beneath the debris. The affected shops primarily sold sarees, dupattas, and other flammable items, according to officials.
