In a concerted effort to ease congestion and reclaim pedestrian pathways, the Delhi Traffic Police penalised 761 vehicles and towed away 10 during a special drive against encroachment and illegal parking on Aurobindo Marg.

The enforcement operation was carried out within the Hauz Khas traffic circle, under the southern range, with the aim of restoring smooth traffic flow and ensuring safe passage for pedestrians.

“Aurobindo Marg is a vital north-south arterial road linking South Delhi with Gurugram and several other key locations. However, the persistent problem of encroachments and unauthorised parking had been significantly hampering mobility,” the traffic police said in an official statement.

Officials noted that the stretch was choked with illegally parked vehicles—including private cars, taxis, and autorickshaws—as well as encroachments by hawkers and vendors. In some instances, shopkeepers had extended their premises onto the road, narrowing the carriageway and crowding out pedestrians.

In addition to the challans and vehicle removals, civic authorities confiscated or cleared 85 encroaching items during the drive.

The operation was conducted in coordination with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the New Delhi Municipal Council, and the local police. Photographic documentation was taken for each encroachment addressed.

Officials reported a marked improvement in traffic movement following the drive. “We have received encouraging feedback from the public, especially regarding the cleared footpaths and reduced congestion,” a senior traffic officer said.

The Delhi Traffic Police affirmed that such enforcement drives will be sustained in the future.
