Delhi: In Northeast Delhi’s Nand Nagri, a tragic incident unfolded on Wednesday when Arun, a 35-year-old nursing orderly at GTB Hospital, was arrested for allegedly murdering his father, Kehar Singh, aged 65. The family dynamics, marred by longstanding tensions and exacerbated by Arun’s alcoholism, culminated in a fatal altercation that claimed Kehar Singh’s life.

The incident came to light when Arun’s elder brother, Ram Bahadur, residing in Maujpur, alerted the police around 3:20 pm after a verbal dispute between Arun and their father turned violent. Upon arrival at the two-and-a-half-storey residence, police found the ground floor locked, and the stair gate bolted from inside. Arun, visibly intoxicated and initially reluctant to cooperate, eventually opened the door to reveal the gruesome scene on the second floor: Kehar Singh’s lifeless body lay in an open area, with severe head injuries inflicted by a bamboo stick and bricks found nearby, all stained with blood.

Investigations indicated that tensions had been simmering for some time over property distribution. Kehar Singh, intending to divide the family’s assets among his daughters and Ram Bahadur, clashed frequently with Arun, who demanded a share. The altercation on that fateful day escalated quickly, resulting in Kehar Singh’s immediate demise from the brutal assault.

After the preliminary investigation and forensic examination at GTB Hospital, where the body was taken, Arun was charged under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC. Police continued to interrogate him to piece together the sequence of events leading to the tragic outcome, while the family and the community grappled with the shock and aftermath of the incident.
