Delhi: The much-awaited Barapullah Phase 3 is expected to be inaugurated by the end of September, PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said on Saturday.

Singh mentioned that Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will attend the inauguration on September 29.

This project aims to provide seamless connectivity between East and South Delhi, linking Mayur Vihar Phase 1 and AIIMS via signal-free carriageways.

The new flyover will merge with the existing Barapullah flyover at Sarai Kale Khan, completing a stretch of around 9 km.

“The project is also set to become a landmark in urban infrastructure development. For the first time in India, a flyover corridor has been designed with a dedicated cycle track, promoting greener and more sustainable mobility for Delhiites. Alongside faster vehicular movement, the project also includes pedestrian-friendly infrastructure and modern urban design elements,” the PWD minister said.

Originally approved in 2014 and initiated in 2015, the project was initially scheduled for completion in 2017. However, it faced multiple delays and significant cost overruns, with the revised project cost now at approximately Rs 1,635 crore.

According to officials, both ramps of the elevated corridor are complete –one ramp from the Mayur Vihar side and another continuing from the existing corridor near Sarai Kale Khan.

The PWD has also completed the work on an extra-dosed bridge over the Yamuna, which will hold the entire corridor together.
