The national capital experienced a relatively cool and humid start to the day on Thursday, with the minimum temperature dipping to 25.2 degrees Celsius — about two degrees below the seasonal average, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported.

Weather officials have forecast thunderstorms accompanied by rain later in the day, offering a brief respite from the persistent summer heat. The maximum temperature is expected to settle around 34 degrees Celsius. Despite the dip in temperature, humidity levels remained high, with the relative humidity recorded at 80 percent at 8:30 am.

The overcast skies and high moisture levels are typical of pre-monsoon conditions seen in the region during this time of year. The IMD has urged residents to stay alert and take precautions, especially during periods of intense rain or gusty winds.

On the air quality front, Delhi saw relatively cleaner air Thursday morning. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 72 at 9 am, placing it in the “satisfactory” category. An AQI reading between 51 and 100 indicates satisfactory air quality with minor breathing discomfort only for sensitive individuals.

The CPCB classifies air quality on a six-tier scale, ranging from “good” (0-50) to “severe” (401-500). The improvement in air quality is likely influenced by recent scattered rainfall and moderate wind speeds, which help in dispersing pollutants.

With thunderstorms in the forecast and manageable air quality, Delhiites can expect a mix of relief and caution today. Authorities advise commuters to check weather updates regularly and plan their day accordingly.
