A portion of a factory building collapsed after a fire broke out at an industrial unit in the Mayapuri area on Thursday, prompting the deployment of 18 fire tenders, a Delhi Fire Service (DFS) official said.

According to the DFS, a call regarding the blaze at a factory located in Phase-I of the Mayapuri Industrial Area was received around 11:17 am.

“As the scale of the fire increased, more fire tenders were called to the spot to douse the flames. The fire had engulfed a steel-cutting and packing materials factory operating on the first and second floors of a building spread over nearly 500 square yards,” the officer said.

The structure comprises a basement, ground floor and two upper floors.

Fire officials said during fire-fighting operations, some portions of the first and second floors collapsed and the building remains in a dangerous condition due to structural damage caused by the blaze and the collapse.
