A Delhi-based couple and their two children lost their lives in a road accident on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in the Fatehabad area, police reported on Monday.

The victims, residents of Uttam Nagar Delhi, were on their way home after taking a holy dip at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj.

The accident occurred around 12.30 am on Monday, according to the police.

Omprakash Singh, 42, was driving the car when he lost control of the vehicle. The car crossed the road divider and collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction on the expressway, officials said.

Singh, his wife Purnima, 34, their 12-year-old daughter Ahana, and their four-year-old son Vinayak died on the spot, Assistant Commissioner of Police Amar Deep confirmed.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and the family has been notified, the officer added.

“Initial findings indicate that the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, causing the accident,” he said.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash, but no foul play is suspected at this time.

The devastating accident has left the family’s relatives and friends in shock.
