Delhi gears up for SIR, survey to begin next week

Delhi is preparing for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which will begin next week. This preparation includes training for booth-level officers (BLOs) and agents of political parties across the city’s 13 districts.

On Wednesday, the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) held a meeting with representatives from recognised political parties in Delhi to discuss the upcoming door-to-door survey starting on June 30. During the SIR, over 13,000 BLOs will conduct house-to-house enumeration.

The meeting was attended by the AAP, BJP, BSP, CPI(M) and Congress representatives, in which CEO Ashok Kumar asserted that SIR aimed to ensure that “No eligible citizen is left out while no ineligible person is included in the Electoral Roll.”

The four-day training session for BLOs, BLO supervisors, and booth-level agents (BLA 1 and 2) of political parties is set to conclude on Thursday, according to officials.

The Delhi CEO’s office stated that voters will need to provide information about the last SIR in 2002 on the enumeration form, return one copy to the BLO, and obtain an acknowledgement from them.

The representatives of political parties were briefed on how to fill out the enumeration form under various circumstances, including self-mapping, progeny mapping, and cases where no mapping could be done concerning the electoral roll of 2002.

Additionally, there were explanations on how to fill out forms for married women who moved to Delhi after the last SIR and whose names are not listed in the electoral roll of their native places.

The door-to-door survey conducted by the BLOs will conclude on July 29, with the draft electoral roll scheduled to be published on August 5. After that, claims and objections can be filed by concerned voters and political parties from August 5 to September 4.

The CEO’s office will issue notices to voters if needed and will address the claims and objections from August 5 to October 3.

The final electoral roll will be published on October 7, said the CEO’s office.

There are over 1.55 crore registered voters in Delhi, according to the final electoral roll published for the 2025 Assembly elections.

The total number of voters in the city stands at 15,524,858, which includes 8,349,645 male voters, 7,173,952 female voters, and 1,261 third-gender voters.
