The Delhi government has earmarked Rs 6,874 crore for the health sector in its 2025-26 Budget, with a focus on strengthening healthcare infrastructure, expanding wellness centres, and enhancing critical care services.

Presenting the Budget on Tuesday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta highlighted the government’s commitment to making healthcare more accessible and modernising the system through improved primary care and streamlined medical records.

Gupta, who also holds the finance portfolio, unveiled a Budget of Rs 1 lakh crore — a 31.5 per cent increase from the previous year — emphasising the government’s resolve to ensure quality healthcare for all.

A sum of Rs 320 crore has been allocated for establishing 400 health and wellness centres, including “Ayushman Arogya Mandirs,” aimed at improving access to primary healthcare services. Additionally, Rs 10 crore has been earmarked for the Ayushman Digital Mission to modernise records and create an integrated healthcare data system for better patient management.

In a veiled criticism of the previous AAP-led administration, Gupta alleged that the earlier government had initiated 24 projects that were “of no use.”

“The last government failed to provide basic healthcare facilities. Our goal is to make Delhi’s health system stronger and more accessible to all,” Gupta remarked.

The Budget also includes Rs 1,000 crore to accelerate the construction of 10 to 13 new hospitals, a move aimed at boosting Delhi’s critical care capacity.

“We are determined to build a robust, modern healthcare system for Delhi — one that serves everyone efficiently,” Gupta added.

This marks the first Budget presented by a BJP-led government in Delhi in over 26 years, following its victory over the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the recent Assembly elections.
