The Delhi government has requested land from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to begin construction of the Savitri Cinema half-flyover in South Delhi, officials said on Thursday.

The Public Works Department (PWD) approved the project in December last year, along with the Modi Mill flyover’s integration with the Kalkaji Temple road.

“After administrative approval, the work was awarded; however, due to constraints of space in the area, we have requested the DDA for around two acres so that construction can be carried out without too much hindrance to traffic movement,” an official said.

According to the plan, the second flyover at Savitri Cinema will be constructed parallel to the existing structure for Rs 58 crore. This construction will provide hassle-free movement between Greater Kailash and Nehru Place, Chittranjan Park and the Chirag Delhi area.

The official said the authorities identified the need for a second flyover in 2016, and a basic plan was also prepared and approved by the Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (Planning & Engineering) Centre (UTTIPEC).

“Once operational, the flyovers will provide signal-free movement, improve traffic speeds, and eliminate congestion at key junctions, particularly at Captain Gaur Marg-Outer Ring Road and Outer Ring Road-GK-II Road and nearby areas,” PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said.

The official said to integrate Kalkaji Mandir with the Modi Mill flyover, a new three-lane carriageway will be constructed. He said a three-lane carriageway will be constructed from Modi Mill to Kalkaji Temple at the cost of Rs 312.94 crore.
