Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu said on Monday that he has directed all departments to ensure effective implementation of the heatwave action plan on the ground.

Sandhu chaired a meeting with all concerned departments and agencies to review Delhi’s preparedness for the upcoming heatwave conditions.

“With the onset of summer, directed all officers to ensure that the action plan is effectively implemented on the ground within one week,” Sandhu said in a post on X.

District magistrates will take a lead role in execution, with special focus on safeguarding vulnerable groups – including women, children, the elderly and labourers through strong heat mitigation measures at public places, he added.

“Progress will be closely monitored to ensure every department fulfils its responsibilities through seamless coordination, prioritising the well-being of all citizens,” the LG further said, stressing the importance of caring for the city’s birds and animals during extreme heat conditions.

The IMD has announced a yellow alert as the city is expected to reel under heatwave conditions today.
