The LG flagged off 40 electric cabs with women drivers on wheels.

In the event conducted at the Institute of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTR) in Sarai Kale Khan, key authorities like East Delhi BJP MP Gautam Gambhir, Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar and others were present.

The move, according to an official statement, is intended to increase the proportion of women drivers in Delhi’s public transportation sector and to ensure the safety of female passengers.

Saxena also administered Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s five pledges (Panch Pran) for 2047 making a developed India, removing any sign of servility, pride in our rich heritage, unity in upliftment of the nation and fulfilling our duties as citizens, it said.

Saxena said this skill (driving) training of women drivers was in line with the Prime Minister’s call for women empowerment, which was also addressed in his Independence Day speech.

According to him, without the “economic freedom” of women, the definition of independence would be incomplete.

He stated that this driving skill training programme for women drivers would open up new employment prospects for women and make them self-reliant. He is hopeful that the public transport sector in the capital will have 50% of women drivers in coming years.

Praising electric car fleet aggregator Blu Smart for facilitating women drivers to contribute, the LG said while these cars would help in environment protection, the women cab drivers will assure the safety of female passengers.

Under this scheme, the women can register directly with the transport department or they can be roped in by private cab aggregators.

All women drivers are trained free of cost by IDTR, and the cost of the training will be divided between the Transport Department and the Aggregators (50-50%), according to the statement.

The trained women drivers will be taken in the fleet of the aggregators who have financed them. Under this initiative, 1,000 women will be given training and assured employment in the next one year, it added.
