Delhi Mayor Mahesh Kumar on Sunday called upon the BJP-led government to provide compensation to the families affected by the collapse of a four-storey building in northeast Delhi’s Mustafabad.
The tragedy occurred around 3 am in the Shakti Vihar locality when a 20-year-old building collapsed, resulting in the deaths of 11 individuals and injuries to 11 others. Several of the injured remain in critical condition.
At a press conference, Kumar demanded that the families of those who lost their lives be granted ₹10 lakh each, while those injured should receive ₹5 lakh as compensation.
He criticised the government for failing to announce any financial relief despite visits to the site by senior ministers.
“This is an extremely tragic incident. May God grant peace to the departed souls and strength to their families. But prayers alone are not enough—the government must take action,” Kumar stated. “The Delhi government allocates crores of rupees for various events, yet when it comes to supporting the poor, there appears to be no funding available.”
The Mayor also revealed that a letter has been sent to the Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), urging strict action against any officials found guilty of negligence. “So far, no accountability has been established. We are demanding strong punitive measures against those responsible for this tragedy,” he said.

Kumar further alleged that officials supported by the BJP within the MCD were stalling proceedings and shifting blame. “It is time to stop the blame game and take responsibility. The civic body must act now to ensure justice for the victims,” he added.
