Over Rs 40 lakh in cash, 89 laptops, 193 mobiles, and nine ‘mangalsutras‘ topped the list of items left behind by commuters on the Delhi Metro in 2024.

These items were recovered and returned to their rightful owners by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) after verifying claims.

The CISF, tasked with providing counter-terrorist security to the Delhi Metro, guards a public transport network that spans over 250 stations and 350 km of rail track across the National Capital Region (NCR).

Many of the items were left behind by passengers near the X-ray baggage scanners in station areas.

According to official data accessed by PTI, in addition to Rs 40.74 lakh in cash, CISF personnel recovered 89 laptops, 40 watches, 193 mobile phones, silver ornaments including 13 pairs of anklets, and other jewellery such as rings and bangles.

Foreign currency amounting to 24,550, including US dollars, Saudi riyal, and Thai baht, was also recovered and returned to the owners.

The CISF recorded 59 suicide attempts in the Delhi Metro in 2024, resulting in 23 fatalities, three lives saved, and 33 people injured.

Security checks conducted by CISF personnel also led to the detection of 75 rounds of live ammunition and seven firearms during the year.

Demonstrating their commitment to public welfare, the CISF helped 262 children found travelling alone by reuniting them with their families, police, or child helpline volunteers. Additionally, 671 women passengers in distress received assistance from the force.

The CISF has deployed 13,000 personnel, including men and women, to secure the Delhi Metro network.

Millions of commuters rely on the metro daily to travel within Delhi and to adjoining cities like Noida and Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, as well as Gurugram and Faridabad in Haryana.
