The Delhi Metro recorded its highest-ever daily passenger journeys on February 13, totaling 71.09 lakh, an extraordinary milestone achieved amid significant traffic congestion in the National Capital Region (NCR) due to heavy security measures associated with a farmers’ rally towards the capital.
The urban transportation authority announced the remarkable feat through a social media post on X, heralding its achievement surpassing the previous record established in September 2023.
Delhi Metro’s previous benchmarks were 71.03 lakh daily passenger journeys on September 4, 2023, and 69.94 lakh on August 29, 2023.
The concept of journey or line utilization, a significant metric, is measured by the number of corridors passengers traverse to reach their destinations.
In a statement, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) proudly declared that it broke its own record by registering an unprecedented 71.09 lakh passenger ridership on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, marking the highest-ever daily passenger ridership.
To underscore the achievement, the DMRC shared a poster captioned, “Delhi Metro has crossed another milestone of success.”
On the day of the record-setting passenger journeys, Delhi Metro had implemented regulations on passenger movement at nine stations. They temporarily closed some entry and exit gates for several hours to manage the influx of travelers due to the farmers’ march towards Delhi.
To maintain safety and operational efficiency, commuters were redirected to other gates for entry and exit purposes at the affected stations.
