The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced on Thursday that metro services on the Blue, Yellow, and Violet Lines will begin at 3:30 am on Sunday, February 23, to accommodate participants of the 10th edition of the Apollo Tyres New Delhi Marathon.

In a post on X, DMRC stated, “To facilitate participants of the New Delhi Marathon 2025, Delhi Metro services will commence at 3:30 am on February 23 from all terminal stations of Blue, Yellow, and Violet Lines”.

Trains on these lines will run at an interval of 30 minutes until 6:00 am, after which normal operations will resume as per the regular schedule.

The marathon, one of the country’s largest sporting events, is expected to see over 25,000 participants. Recognised by World Athletics and certified as a National Marathon by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) and the Association of International Marathons (AIMS), the event holds a prestigious spot on the global athletic calendar.

Padma Shri Pullela Gopi Chand and cricketer Ajinkya Rahane will flag off the race from Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, with runners traversing New Delhi’s historic and vibrant streets. Participants from 24 countries and 543 cities across 27 Indian states will compete in four categories: Full Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K.

Notably, the Indian Elite Marathon team, featuring top national athletes, will participate, and the event also serves as a qualifier for International Amateur Races. Additionally, in a move towards inclusivity, around 25 vision-impaired athletes will take part, highlighting the marathon’s commitment to diversity in sports.

The early metro services aim to ensure smooth transportation for marathon runners and support staff. Metro services on other lines will continue as per the regular Sunday schedule, DMRC added.
