Delhi Police on Monday arrested the husband of the 28-year-old newlywed woman who died after allegedly falling from the third floor of a building in Lodhi Colony, officials said.
The accused, Arastu Sikka, was arrested after a case under the relevant provisions about dowry death was registered at Lodhi Colony police station, they said.
The deceased, Akriti, a resident of Pushp Vihar, was found critically injured after the alleged fall at Palika Kunj on Saturday. She was rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, where doctors declared her dead.
The victim’s brother had alleged that the incident was being projected as a case of suicide to shield those responsible.
The family also claimed that Akriti had been subjected to physical assault and harassment by her husband after the marriage.
Earlier, the woman’s family had rejected the possibility of suicide and alleged that her husband and in-laws had murdered her over dowry-related demands.
Akriti had married on April 24 this year and was working as a sales executive at a private company in Chhatarpur.
As the death occurred within seven years of marriage, mandatory inquest proceedings were conducted by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM).
The police said further investigation is underway.
