A 20-year-old man, who was spotted sitting on the bonnet of a Scorpio car while dressed as Spiderman, was apprehended by the police and fined Rs 26,000 for dangerous driving and other offences, officials reported on Wednesday.
The incident came to light when police received a complaint on the social media platform X, alerting them to a Scorpio car travelling on Dwarka roads with a person in a Spiderman costume perched on its bonnet. Prompt action was taken by the authorities.
The police managed to trace the vehicle and found the individuals involved near Ramphal Chowk in Dwarka. The man in the Spiderman costume was identified as Aditya, a 20-year-old resident of Najafgarh. The driver of the car was identified as 19-year-old Gaurav Singh, who resides in Mahavir Enclave, according to a senior police officer.
Both the owner and the driver of the Scorpio have been charged with dangerous driving, driving without a pollution certificate, and failing to wear a seatbelt. The charges carry a potential maximum fine of Rs 26,000, imprisonment, or both, the officer explained.
The Delhi Traffic Police emphasised its dedication to ensuring road safety for everyone. They stated that such reckless behaviour on the roads is unacceptable, and stringent measures will be enforced against violators to uphold the law and protect road users.
The Delhi Traffic Police also urged citizens to report any dangerous driving or traffic violations promptly. They highlighted that public cooperation is essential in maintaining road safety and ensuring smooth traffic flow throughout the city, the officer added. (With inputs from PTI)
