The Delhi Police issued an open letter to citizens on Friday, highlighting the importance of mutual respect and reminding people that police personnel, too, have families and loved ones.

In a post on social media on X titled “An Open Letter to Every Citizen”, the police said that beyond uniforms, opinions and disagreements, everyone is human first.

The post featured a postcard carrying the handwritten message, “Aapki awaaz aapka haq hai, aur aapki suraksha hamara farz” (Your voice is your right, and your safety is our duty).

“Uniform ke peeche bhi ek insaan hai, jiska apna parivar hai, apne log hain,” the message read, emphasising that police personnel also have families and loved ones.

“Faraq sirf uniform ka hai, insaaniyat ka nahi” (The only difference is the uniform, not humanity), the postcard added.

Signed off with “With care, Delhi Police“, the message sought to underline the human side of policing and the shared humanity between police personnel and citizens.

The post comes amid heightened security in New Delhi ahead of a protest called by the Cockroach Janta Party and other student organisations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at Jantar Mantar on October 10.

The message emphasised that mutual understanding and respect remain important despite differences and disagreements.
