The construction of a state-of-the-art building for veterinary hospital at Moti Bagh has been allocated by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC). The work will commence from September and is likely to finish by June 2023. The two-storey hospital will be constructed near Bidhan Chandra Vidyalaya and the estimated expenditure for the project is valued at Rs 2.5 crore.

As per the officials, the hospital will be equipped with x-ray infrastructure, procedure rooms, recovery spaces, outpatient offices and other facilities. The hospital will provide comprehensive medical care to 150-200 stray animals as well as domesticated ones on a daily basis.

The new facility will span over an area of 420 sq.m.  and the building will be made quake-proof. The hospital will also keep details of sterilization conducted by NGOs. However, no provision for sterilization or operation of animals can be made there due to limited space available.

“During a meeting with officials and representatives of NGOs last week, I issued a direction to look for a place nearby for starting our own sterilization center and NGOs will operate from that place only. Suggestion for third-party audit of the sterilization work done by NGOs was also given,” said NDMC vice-chairman Satish Upadhyay.
