The traffic situation in the ITO area of the national capital returned to its usual state on Tuesday as the stretch was reopened, bringing relief to commuters traveling from East Delhi to the central parts of the city.

Last week, vehicular movement was restricted in the water-logged ITO area due to damage caused to a regulator of the Delhi Irrigation and Flood Control Department, caused by the overflowing Yamuna river.

On Monday evening, one carriageway of Vikas Marg was opened, allowing vehicles to start plying. By Tuesday, both carriageways of the road were operational again, according to officials.

Atishi, a Delhi Cabinet Minister, shared a video on Twitter showcasing the busy ITO stretch and expressed her satisfaction, stating, “Happy to share that traffic is back to normal at ITO.”

The national capital experienced its most severe flood-like situation last week as the water level in the Yamuna river reached a record high, resulting in the inundation of several parts of the city.

Official data indicates that 26,784 individuals were evacuated from the flood-affected low-lying areas of Delhi. Out of these, approximately 18,416 individuals are currently residing in 47 relief camps, while others were relocated to their preferred locations.
