Delhi: A 26-year-old aspiring civil servant reportedly died from electrocution after heavy rainfall in Patel Nagar area of Delhi, police said on Tuesday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) M Harsha Vardhan said, “At 2:43 pm on Monday, Ranjit Nagar police station received a call about a person stuck to an iron gate near Power Gym, close to Patel Nagar Metro Station, due to an electric current”.
When authorities arrived at the scene, they discovered that the man had been electrocuted by the current running through the iron gate, Vardhan explained, noting that the road was flooded with water.

The individual was transported to RML Hospital, where medical staff pronounced him dead upon arrival, Vardhan added.
The victim has been identified as Nilesh Rai, a civil service aspirant who was living in a PG in Patel Nagar, according to the DCP.
An FIR has been filed at the Ranjit Nagar police station, and forensic teams have examined the location, Vardhan said.
Further investigations are ongoing, he concluded.
During monsoon season, one of the major threats for the residents is the presence of naked wires which claims scores of lives every year. According to data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), approximately 100,000 people lost their lives due to electrocution between 2011 and 2020, averaging around 11,000 deaths annually.
This number surged to 12,492 in 2022, resulting in an average of 34 fatalities per day.
