Delhi-NCR woke up to the soft patter of rain on Monday morning, July 14, offering much-needed relief to the city residents.
The city, which saw a heavy downpour on Sunday evening, continues to enjoy cloudy skies and light rainfall.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted generally overcast conditions with moderate showers throughout the day. With pleasant winds and scattered showers, the monsoon mood has settled over the capital, bringing smiles to many early risers.
Sunday’s intense spell brought the maximum temperature down to 38.4°C, while Monday began on a cooler note with a minimum of 25.1°C.
Today, temperatures are expected to hover around 33°C for the maximum and 26°C for the minimum — offering some welcome relief for both office-goers and school children. The refreshing cool has made the usual Delhi heat feel distant, at least for the moment.
The showers have also helped improve the city’s air quality. After the rainy weekend, Delhi recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 79, which falls under the ‘satisfactory’ category.

This is largely due to the easterly and southeasterly winds typical of the monsoon, which carry less dust and pollution compared to the dry northwesterly winds. The frequent rains help clean the air, giving residents a rare breath of fresh air.
Rainfall figures on Sunday showed 14.1 mm at Safdarjung, 21.1 mm at Pragati Maidan, and 13.5 mm at the Pusa weather station.
With more rain on the horizon and clouds still looming, Delhi continues to enjoy a welcome monsoon break — one that offers both relief and cleaner skies.
