Delhi Weather: City breaths ‘very poor’ air; min temp 6.3 degrees Celsius

Delhi Weather: The air quality in the national capital was in the “very poor” category on Sunday morning with an overall Air Quality Index reading of 392, according to the Central Pollution Control Board.

Data from the Central Pollution Control Board’s Sameer app showed that 19 monitoring stations in the city reported air quality in the “severe” category, with Anand Vihar recording the highest reading of 444, while the remaining recorded “very poor” levels.

An AQI between 0 and 50 is considered “good”, 51 to 100 “satisfactory”, 101 to 200 “moderate”, 201 to 300 “poor”, 301 to 400 “very poor”, and 401 to 500 “severe”, according to CPCB standards.

The minimum temperature settled at 6.3 degrees Celsius, 0.5 notches below the season’s average, while the humidity was recorded at 71 per cent at 8.30 am, according to the India Meteorological Department.

The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 21 degrees Celsius, with the weather department forecasting mainly clear skies.

Delhi govt appoints DMs to newly organised districts

In a major administrative rejig, the Delhi government has appointed district magistrates to the newly organised districts and given additional charges to several other AGMUT cadre IAS officers. The Delhi government on Thursday notified the reorganisation of districts in the national capital with the carving out of three new ones — Old Delhi, Central North and Outer North.

Delhi Police apprehends 966 people in southeast Delhi ahead of New Year under Operation Aaghat 3.0

The Delhi Police has apprehended 966 people and seized arms, drugs, illegal liquor and vehicles during a large-scale preventive crackdown in southeast Delhi ahead of New Year celebrations, an official said on Saturday. The operation, namely Operation Aaghat 3.0, was launched to curb organised crime, street offences and the activities of habitual criminals in view of heightened public movement during year-end festivities, they said.

Of the total, 331 accused were arrested under the Delhi Excise Act, NDPS Act and the Public Gambling Act, while 504 people were apprehended under various preventive provisions, the police said.
