On February 25, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) sub-committee announced the lifting of Stage 2 anti-pollution measures under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), citing a notable improvement in air quality due to favorable meteorological conditions. Delhi’s 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 4 pm on Monday was 186, significantly below the 300 threshold that mandates Stage 2 restrictions. With this decision, the national capital will now revert to GRAP Stage 1 restrictions until further notice.
The CAQM attributed the improvement in air quality to enhanced atmospheric conditions, including better mixing height, ventilation coefficient, and other favorable factors. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) have forecast that the AQI is likely to remain in the moderate to poor range in the coming days. This development brings much-needed relief to Delhi residents, who have endured severe pollution levels in recent months.
