Delhi: Parts of City sees dense fog, minimum temp at 7.6 deg C

Delhi weather: The national capital saw shallow fog on Thursday morning, with the minimum temperature recorded at 7.6 degrees Celsius, the weather department said.

The weather office has forecast cold day conditions at isolated places in Delhi and dense fog at some locations on Thursday.

Palam weather station reported very dense fog with 0 metres visibility since 6 am, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

The maximum temperature is expected to settle around 16 degrees Celsius, which was recorded at 15 degrees on Wednesday. Delhi saw a low of 7.4 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.

The Met office said on Thursday that the wind speed is likely to increase to 12 to 14 kilometres per hour during the afternoon and gradually decline to less than 8 kilometres per hour by the evening.

Smog and shallow fog is expected during the evening and the night.

Meanwhile, On Tuesday, Delhi experienced an overcast sky on the last day of the year, with the maximum temperature dropping to 17.7 degrees Celsius, 2.7 degrees below normal. The minimum temperature, however, stood at 9.6 degrees Celsius, 2.6 degrees above normal, according to the Met Office.

Humidity levels ranged between 81% and 87%, the Met department reported. It has forecast partly cloudy skies for Wednesday, with surface winds predominantly blowing from the northwest at speeds below 8 km/h in the morning. These conditions are expected to bring smog or shallow fog across most areas and moderate fog in isolated regions.

Wind speeds are predicted to rise to 14-18 km/h in the afternoon, before reducing to less than 8 km/h by evening. Smog or shallow fog is also likely during the evening and night. The maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi on Wednesday are expected to be around 17 degrees Celsius and 8 degrees Celsius, respectively.
