A woman was shot by her neighbor in northwest Delhi’s Siraspur in the early hours of Monday, following a dispute over loud music played by a DJ during a function at the neighbor’s house, said police.

The incident took place around 12:15 am, according to a senior police officer.

The suspects, Harish, who fired the shot, and Amit, whose gun was used, were arrested shortly after the incident.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer north) Ravi Kumar Singh said that the police received a call around 12:15 am regarding the firing, and they found Ranju, a Siraspur resident, admitted to Max Hospital in Shalimar Bagh with a gunshot wound to her neck. Unfortunately, the doctors declared her unfit to give a statement.

Subsequently, the statement of an eyewitness, the victim’s sister-in-law, was recorded, according to DCP Singh. The eyewitness stated that a DJ was playing loud music during a ‘kuan pujan’ function at the house of Harish, who lives across the street, on Sunday.

Ranju requested that Harish turn off the music from her balcony. In response, Harish grabbed a gun from his friend, Amit, and fired a shot that hit Ranju, the eyewitness told the police.

Harish and Amit have been arrested, and a case under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 27 of the Arms Act is being registered against them, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer north) Ravi Kumar Singh. (With inputs from PTI)
