On Thursday, a woman from Delhi was found murdered with stab wounds in a house near the Kotepura bus stand in Dakshina Kannada district.
The victim’s identity has not been established, but she was estimated to be around 35-40 years old, police sources said.
They said that the woman had rented the house with a young man identified as Nayeem also from Delhi who is now missing, and his mobile phone is switched off.
The couple had introduced themselves as retailers of children’s clothes when they rented the house from a local saloon owner, they added.
According to police, a local resident discovered the woman’s body in the toilet after noticing that the couple had not been seen around, and the house door was not locked from inside.
A knife used in the murder was also discovered at the scene. Forensic and fingerprint experts have arrived to investigate, they said.
The landlord had not requested ID cards of the tenants while leasing the property, and the missing man’s identity was confirmed based on an Aadhar card found in the house, they added. (with inputs from PTI)
