Kashmere Gate ISBT
Delhi’s Kashmere Gate Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT), which handles over 2,600 buses daily, is set for a major technological upgrade to improve efficiency and commuter experience. The revamp will introduce real-time bus updates, estimated wait times, and streamlined operations through digital displays and SMS alerts.
A key feature of this transformation is the Automated Bus Bay Allotment System, designed to reduce congestion, optimize space, and provide passengers with live travel information. Additionally, the system will integrate FASTag-based entry and exit management to enhance traffic flow.
To implement this initiative, the Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (DTIDC) has floated a Request for Proposal (RFP) for designing, supplying, installing, and maintaining the system.
As per the tender, the project will follow a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, covering 60 bus bays with a provision for a 25% expansion. The selected concessionaire will be responsible for system development, implementation, and five years of maintenance, with an option to extend for three more years based on performance.

Key features of the system include digital displays at bus bays, estimated wait times, SMS alerts for bus crew, and an integrated mobile app and web portal for live bus tracking. The upgrade is also expected to cut down the turnaround time for buses and reduce reliance on manual coordination.
Currently, inter-state buses take 45-60 minutes to turn around, causing congestion inside and outside the ISBT. Last year, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena directed officials to reduce this turnaround time to 30 minutes, which could increase bus circulation by over 50%. The new system is expected to play a vital role in achieving this target.
