Dengue Outbreak: 196 dengue cases reported in Delhi

Delhi: A total of 106 dengue cases has been reported by the Safdarjung hospital in the national capital since January 1, according to a senior official on Saturday. However, as the data accessed by Patriot, a total number of 90 cases of dengue have been reported to date across Delhi, as per the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) report.

As per the statement released by the Safdarjung hospital, the facility has witnessed four new admissions in the time span July 12 to July 13 suffering from the vector borne disease.

“However, on patient is currently undergoing dengue treatment in the ward, while four patients have been admitted to the hospital since July 1,” the statement stated.

The hospital has not reported any fatalities due to the vector borne disease this year, it further added.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Saturday said that due to rains in the national capital, the risk of Dengue, Chikungunya and other vector-borne diseases has increased.

“In view of the situation, the Corporation has intensified the drive across the city to prevent and control vector borne diseases. Several measures are being taken by MCD to control the diseases,” said a senior official.

Informing about the action taken by the MCD, he said, “This year, 18019250 visits in houses have been done to detect mosquito breeding and in 43650 houses mosquito breeding was found. 218415 houses were sprayed with insecticide. Special Campaigns for anti-mosquito drive were conducted to cover vulnerable areas like Drains and water bodies, Construction sites, Parks and Nurseries and Institutions like hospitals, Schools, Govt. offices etc.”

“MCD has taken Legal enforcement for prevention of mosquito breeding as per provision under Malaria by Laws of DMC Act. MCD has issued 39862 legal notices, 9479 Challans and 2580 offenders have been levied Rs.686105/- administrative charge”, he stated.

“Public Health Department of MCD is regularly taking anti larval measures in all the zones. The information on cases is collected from all the health facilities of Delhi through IHIP (Integrated Health Information Plate Form) Portal run by MOHFW, GOI. These diseases have become endemic in Delhi hence, cases are coming round the year”, senior MCD official added.
