DUSU elections 2025: In a significant development in Delhi University’s student politics, the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has announced its candidates for the upcoming Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections, fielding a woman for the top post after a gap of 17 years.

Joslyn Nandita Choudhary, a 23-year-old MA student in Buddhist Studies from Rajasthan, has been nominated as the party’s candidate for DUSU president. An active NSUI member since 2019, Choudhary has spoken out on issues of women’s safety, campus representation, and student welfare. Her candidature is being seen as a milestone for women’s leadership in the university.

Campaign on the theme of change

The party has anchored its campaign around the theme of Badlav (Change), promising to address long-standing grievances such as inadequate campus infrastructure, lack of hostel facilities, unsafe campus spaces, the demand for menstrual leave, and opposition to what it terms “politically motivated faculty appointments.”

NSUI leaders said the focus this year is on delivering concrete solutions instead of slogans.

Diverse panel of candidates

The announced panel also includes Rahul Jhansla, 24, an MA student in Buddhist Studies known for campaigning for improved hostel hygiene, better sports facilities, and the establishment of a Women’s Development Cell.

Kabir, 24, a student of Law Centre II and a cricketer, has been fielded on a sports and student development plank. The youngest member, 19-year-old Luv Kush Badhana from Zakir Husain College, has emerged as a prominent voice from the Gurjar community and has campaigned against demolition drives in his village.

Reviving female leadership

By nominating Choudhary, NSUI hopes to revive female leadership in Delhi University’s student politics and position itself as a progressive, inclusive alternative in the upcoming elections. Party members expressed confidence that the move could reshape the discourse and inspire greater participation of women in campus leadership.

The DUSU elections are scheduled for September 18, 2025.
