In the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections, the RSS-affiliated ABVP claimed victory in three central panel positions, including the presidency, while the Congress’ NSUI secured one, officials reported.

Tushar Dedha from ABVP was elected DUSU president, defeating NSUI’s Hitesh Gulia by a margin of 3,115 votes, with Dedha receiving 23,460 votes and Gulia 20,345.

Abhi Dahiya from NSUI was elected vice-president, defeating ABVP’s Sushant Dhankar by 1,829 votes, with Dahiya receiving 22,331 votes.

ABVP’s Aparajita and Sachin Baisla won the positions of secretary and joint secretary, respectively.

Aparajita defeated NSUI’s Yakshana Sharma by 12,937 votes, while Baisla defeated NSUI’s Shubham Kumar Chaudhary by 9,995 votes.

The DUSU elections, known for the ABVP-NSUI rivalry, saw a repeat of ABVP’s success, winning three out of four central panel posts in 2019 as well.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju congratulated the ABVP candidates, attributing their success to Rahul Gandhi’s campaign in the Delhi University Students Union Election.

BJP MP Tejasvi Surya commended Team ABVP, highlighting the ideological positions taken by students.

NSUI expressed gratitude to its supporters for Abhi Dahiya’s victory in the vice-president post and pledged to advocate for common students nationwide.

This year’s DUSU elections featured 24 candidates competing for four positions. Voter turnout reached 42%, surpassing the 2019 figure but not reaching the highs of 2018 and 2017.

Elections at 52 colleges and departments used electronic voting machines (EVMs), while college union polls were conducted with paper ballots.

Student concerns ranged from fee hikes to accommodation affordability, security during college events, and menstrual leaves.

ABVP, NSUI, SFI, and AISA fielded candidates for all four central posts in the DUSU elections, the main representative body for most colleges and faculties at Delhi University. (With inputs from PTI)
