Increased security measures have been implemented in the national capital, particularly along the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border, ahead of a protest by farmers, officials announced on Thursday.

Officials also stated that traffic arrangements have been put in place, and commuters have been advised to avoid specific roads.

“A substantial security presence has been established at various entry points along the national capital’s borders. Strict enforcement of law and order will be maintained,” stated a senior police official.

Another police official confirmed the deployment of heavy security forces, including paramilitary units, to ensure law and order is upheld.

Barricades and checkpoints have been put up along the border areas linking Delhi with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, the official added.

According to the Delhi Traffic Police, heavy traffic is anticipated on routes connected to Soniya Vihar, DND, Chilla, Gazipur, Sabhapur, Apsara, and Loni borders on Thursday.

Commuters are urged to either avoid these routes or plan their journeys accordingly.

In anticipation of the farmers’ protest in Noida and Greater Noida, the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police imposed Section 144 of the CrPC on Wednesday and Thursday.

Additionally, the police issued a traffic advisory, warning commuters about possible diversions on certain routes within the twin cities due to the farmers’ movement on tractors.

Farmers’ groups in Noida and Greater Noida have been protesting since December 2023, demanding increased compensation and developed plots in exchange for their land acquired by local development authorities in the past.
