Five men were arrested on Wednesday for their alleged involvement in the abduction and robbery of a businessman at gunpoint in the Shalimar Bagh area of northwest Delhi.
The incident took place on the night of April 7 when the businessman was returning home, and the five accused forcibly entered his car, beat him up, and put him in the back seat before driving away. The robbers took the victim’s mobile phone, wristwatch, gold bracelet, purse containing around Rs 6,000, and other documents before leaving him on the roadside and fleeing in the car.
The victim later discovered that Rs 2 lakh was withdrawn from his bank account using his debit card by the accused.
The police investigation led to the discovery of the car in a remote area of Rohini. The accused, Mohammad Hussain (22), was apprehended from Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao, and based on his interrogation, four others, namely Deepak (19), Pardeep (19), Vipin (18), and Keshav Sharma (25), were also arrested, said stated by Deputy Commissioner of Police (northwest) Jitendra Meena.
The mastermind behind the incident was Keshav Sharma, who owned a business and planned the robbery due to losses in his business.
Police seized the victim’s mobile phone, Rs 91,000, of which Rs 16,000 was found deposited in a bank account, two country-made pistols, and two motorcycles from the accused. (With inputs from PTI)
