Foot over bridge to be constructed between Anand Vihar and Kaushambi, PWD officials say

A decision regarding the construction of foot over bridge (FOB) has been made by the Public Works Department (PWD) to improve the pedestrian movement between Anand Vihar in east Delhi and Kaushambi in Uttar Pradesh, as per the officials on Wednesday.

The tender has also been floated for the award of the work last week by the department.

The FOB would be roughly 60 metres long and close to four metres broad, according to PWD officials. The FOB will be a facility that is accessible to those with disabilities and will have stairs and elevators on both sides.

“The aim is to ease pedestrian movement in the region as at present there is only one FOB on the main road to connect Anand Vihar with the transport facilities at the other side of the road. This FOB is unable to tackle the crowd during rush hours. So a new FOB has been planned”, a PWD official said.

A PWD official stated that the aim is to ease the movement of pedestrians as there is only one FOB in the region on the main road to connect Anand Vihar with other transport facilities on the other side of the road. The FOB that is to be constructed will help during rush hours.

The footfall at this FOB is between 1,000 and 1,500 persons per 15 minutes, according to Delhi government officials. The current FOB is already in poor condition, with one of the two escalators still largely inoperable.

Due to the presence of a city bus terminal, a metro station, a railroad station, and an Inter State Bus Terminus, Anand Vihar is a multi-modal transportation hub in east Delhi (ISBT). Anand Vihar would see an increase in pedestrian traffic as a result of the proposed Delhi-Meerut RRTS rapid train station there.

Kailash Gahlot, the Delhi Transport Minister, conducted an unexpected tour of the Anand Vihar ISBT earlier last month and gave officials instructions to enhance passenger amenities and facilitate pedestrian mobility in the area.
