A four-storey building collapsed in north Delhi’s Shastri Nagar on Monday, police said.
“No injury or casualties were reported since the building was empty”, a senior police officer told PTI.
A call about the incident was received at 8:45 am, he said. As soon as the information was received, vehicles of Delhi Police, Fire and Ambulance reached the spot.
Back in October, a two-storey building collapsed in the city’s Lahori Gate area, killing three people. The building was 40-50 years old and “belonged to the waqf board”, according to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
Among the deceased was a four-year-old girl. Two more bodies were pulled out from the debris, taking the toll in the incident to three, police said.
Meanwhile, the MCD on Monday said, “According to the information available from local sources, the building was 40-50 years old.” The property belonged to the Delhi Waqf Board, it said in a statement.
A senior Delhi Waqf Board official, however, said the building belonged to a mosque in the area.
The issue of unsafe buildings was one of the focal points in the recently concluded MCD elections in Delhi that took place on December 4.
