A total of 675,000 pots containing flowering plants and lush foliage will adorn the 61 roads and venues across Delhi in preparation for the G20 Summit, according to officials from Raj Niwas on Sunday.
The significant locations undergoing this beautification endeavor encompass Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti Marg, Dhaula Kuan-IGI Airport Road, Palam Technical Area, India Gate C-Hexagon, Mandi House, Akbar Road roundabout, Delhi Gate, Rajghat, ITPO, and more, as outlined by the officials.
Following a preparatory meeting led by Lt Governor V K Saxena, directives were issued to designate specific agencies responsible for executing this initiative. These agencies were entrusted with procuring a predefined quantity of plants and pots, preferably from their own nurseries.
“This approach fostered seamless collaboration among five departments/agencies, responsible for the acquisition and placement of these potted plants, while the LG personally oversaw the work’s progress and inspected various corridors over the past couple of months,” an official statement noted.
The Forest Department and the Delhi Parks and Garden Society contributed 375,000 plants (comprising 125,000 foliage and 250,000 flowering plants), while the Public Works Department (PWD) placed 50,000 pots (comprising 35,000 foliage and 15,000 flowering). The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) provided 100,000 pots (consisting of 85,000 foliage and 15,000 flowering), the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) contributed 100,000 pots, and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) supplied 50,000 pots, as per the official update.
With 405,000 potted foliage already adorning the 61 roads, the remaining flowering plants in pots will be installed in the first week of September, ensuring they bloom vibrantly during the entirety of the G20 Summit, officials confirmed.
