Heavy rain lashes Delhi, more showers predicted

Delhi received heavy rainfall today morning resulting in waterlogging in several parts of the national capital. The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted more rains through the day which are expected to bring the mercury down.

The IMD also issued a yellow alert for Delhi, The ‘yellow’ warning advised people to be vigilant and keep themselves updated about the weather conditions.

On Saturday, the minimum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 25 degrees Celsius, which is two notches below the seasonal average, according to the IMD.

During the 24 hours leading up to Saturday morning, the city received 15 mm of rainfall. The Yamuna River was still flowing above the danger mark, measuring 205.36 meters at 10 am.

At 8.30 am, the humidity level was 96 per cent. The IMD predicted that the maximum temperature would reach around 34 degrees Celsius.

Regarding air quality, the Central Pollution Control Board data showed that the Air Quality Index (AQI) was in the ‘satisfactory’ category with a reading of 68 at 10 am. AQI levels between zero and 50 are considered ‘good’, 51 and 100 as ‘satisfactory’, 101 and 200 as ‘moderate’, 201 and 300 as ‘poor’, 301 and 400 as ‘very poor’, and 401 and 500 as ‘severe’.

Earlier this month, Delhi and surrounding areas were flooded due to an overflowing Yamuna river and incessant rain. The river’s water levels have once again breached the danger mark. The Hindon River also witnessed a rise in the water level flooding several low-laying and flood plains of Noida.  (With inputs from PTI)
