The Delhi Municipal Corporation announced plans to equip the Hardayal Library in Chandni Chowk with rooftop solar panels. Constructed over 160 years ago, the library resides in a historical building and was renamed the Hardinge Library in 1916.

Renowned for its collection of literature in Hindi, English, Urdu, Arabic, Persian, and Sanskrit, the library’s managing committee convened on Tuesday to discuss various issues, including the installation of solar panels on its rooftop.

During the meeting, the committee agreed to proceed with the solar panel installation. Additionally, there was a conversation about reinstating a group of previous employees who were terminated when new management assumed control of the library last year.

On October 30, 2023, it was announced that a new managing committee had been formed, with Councilor Preeti serving as secretary. The library’s ex-officio chairperson is the Delhi mayor.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that overdue salaries from 2021 had been issued to 96 employees of the Hardayal Library. Kejriwal praised the municipal corporation for its commitment to serving the public, emphasizing the government’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens.
