IGI airport security breach: In a startling breach of airport security, a man masquerading as a Delhi Police officer was caught by security personnel at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI), Terminal 3. The individual, identified as Sahil Kumar, was detained by CISF officials and later handed over to the Delhi Police for further investigation.

Authorities revealed that Sahil had been posing in a police uniform and loitering inside the terminal, allegedly using the disguise to interact with women and spend nights at the airport without detection. Upon questioning, the accused admitted to forging police identification, including an appointment letter and an ID card, which were recovered from him.

Photoshop Skills Used to Build Fake Identity

What makes the case more alarming is Kumar’s use of digital tools to create convincing fake documents and a social media presence that showcased him in police attire. Officials said he leveraged Photoshop and editing software to craft an online persona that made his impersonation appear legitimate.

CISF’s Sharp Eye Foils the Deception

The impersonation came to light when CISF personnel noticed suspicious behaviour, prompting a thorough verification. Upon cross-checking with Delhi Police, it was confirmed that the man was an impostor. He has since been booked for impersonation, forgery, and trespassing.

Delhi Police are now reviewing CCTV footage to determine whether the accused engaged in any unlawful activities while inside the terminal or attempted to exploit his disguise beyond social interactions.

Not an Isolated Case

This incident follows a similar breach reported last year at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, where a 26-year-old woman used a digitally forged e-ticket to enter the terminal. She was caught when her document failed authentication at the security checkpoint. Like Kumar, she was also charged with forgery after using tech tools to create a fake boarding pass.
