Arvind Kejriwal announced on Saturday that the Delhi government would launch a “spoken English course” at 50 locations throughout the city.

Kejriwal stated during an online press conference that anyone who has completed Class 12 and is between the ages of 18 and 35 can participate in the programme.

He said that in the initial round, 1 lakh kids will be admitted to the programme, which would train them to communicate more effectively in English.

“In the first phase of the Spoken English Prgramme, we will start this course at 50 centres where 1 lakh people will be enrolled. Any Class 12 pass youth between the age group of 18-35 years can be part of the programme. This course will help them in getting jobs and developing their personality,” Kejriwal said.

He further stated that although there would be no course costs, participants would first need to put down Rs 950 as security.

The security deposit will be returned once the course has been successfully completed with 100% attendance. For working adolescents, there would be possibilities for weekend and evening shifts over the course’s three to four months of instruction, Kejriwal added.

The students must have studied English up through eighth grade in order to be considered and admitted to the program, and basic comprehension of the language will be required.

He added that the course will be taught by the government’s Delhi Skill Entrepreneurship University and that Cambridge University will evaluate it, so it will be of an international standard.
