Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 25.2 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning across the city. A yellow alert has been issued, advising residents to remain cautious.

The IMD also predicted a generally cloudy sky and high humidity levels throughout the day. Relative humidity was measured at 85% at 8:30 AM, indicating a high moisture level conducive to rain.

The city is expected to witness a thunderstorm with rain under generally cloudy skies. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 32°C. Humidity levels are expected to remain high, ranging between 70% and 89%.

On Wednesday, the national capital is likely to experience a thunderstorm with rain, with skies remaining generally cloudy. The maximum temperature is expected to reach 33°C, while the minimum will be around 26°C. Humidity levels will range between 65% and 85%, creating warm and muggy conditions.

Meanwhile, the city’s air quality remained in the ‘satisfactory’ category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 65. This level is considered acceptable for most people, posing little to no health risk.

Delhi’s monsoon conditions have gradually intensified over the past few days, bringing relief from scorching heat but also increasing the likelihood of waterlogging and traffic disruptions.

The yellow alert, which denotes “Be Aware,” is typically issued when weather conditions may cause some inconvenience but are not expected to be severe.

An AQI between 0 and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 to 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 to 200 ‘moderate’, 201 to 300 ‘poor’, 301 to 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 to 500 ‘severe’.

The IMD has advised citizens to monitor updates and exercise caution during outdoor activities, especially during thunderstorm periods.

On Monday, the capital experienced a significant drop in temperatures following light rainfall across Delhi-NCR, providing much-needed respite from the intense summer heat. The IMD reported that both maximum and minimum temperatures were well below the seasonal average.

Safdarjung, the city’s primary weather observatory, recorded a maximum temperature of 30.6 degrees Celsius—6.8 degrees below normal—and a minimum of 24 degrees Celsius, nearly 4 degrees below the average for this time of the year.

Rainfall was recorded in multiple areas, with Palam logging 14.4 mm of rain between 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM. Ayanagar witnessed the highest intra-day rainfall at 20 mm. Humidity levels remained elevated, touching 100 per cent over the past 24 hours.
