Main accused who shot Delhi school girl in Sangam Vihar arrested

Delhi Police has arrested the main accused in the case of the 16-year-old girl who was shot at in South Delhi’s Sangam Vihar. The accused, Amanat Ali (19), had planned to kill her as she stopped talking to him, officials said. The police had earlier arrested the other accused – Bobby (24) and Pawan alias Sumit (19).

The official statement says that Ali met the victim on social media two years ago. Vut, she stopped talking to him around six months ago, for reasons not yet disclosed. This irked Ali and he developed a grudge for the girl.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, in his address to the Delhi Assembly, said his government will help the victim with the best treatment possible and has also demanded the most severe punishment for the accused. The victim was shot on 25 August afternoon, and is being treated for a bullet injury on her shoulder.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Benita Mary Jaiker, said that as per the victim’s statement, Sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code and also the Arms Act have been registered against the accused. She added that the police had analyzed the CCTV footage from the crime scene, post which the victim identified Amanat Ali.

While the accused trio was initially traced to Muzaffarnagar, they managed to give a skip to the police team. Based on a tip-off, the police arrested Bobby from K lock of Sangam Vihar, who then led him to the third accused, Pawan. Ali was arrested from Trilokpuri, she added.
