The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Tuesday carried out 40 demolitions and sealed 16 properties as part of its ongoing drive against dangerous buildings, unauthorised constructions and violations of building norms, officials said.

Four demolition orders were also passed during the enforcement exercise conducted across all 12 zones of the civic body, they said.

The MCD has stepped up action against dangerous buildings and unauthorised constructions following the recent building collapse in Satya Niketan where seven people died, with officials carrying out inspections and enforcement action at various locations across the city.

Major demolition actions on Tuesday were carried out at Gaushala Road in Satbari in the south zone and at Vishal Enclave, Hastsal, Vikaspuri Extension and Uttam Nagar in the west zone, according to the civic body.

In north Delhi, demolition action was carried out in the Subzi Mandi area, while in the east zone, major action was taken at New Seelampur, Mayur Vihar Phase-I and Pandav Nagar, it said.

The MCD on Monday also carried out 40 demolition actions and sealed eight properties for violations of the Master Plan of Delhi and Building Bye-Laws.

The civic body said its enforcement drive would continue against unauthorised constructions and buildings found to be violating applicable norms.

The MCD is continuing its survey of paying-guest (PG) accommodation buildings across Delhi to prepare a database and assess their compliance with building norms and other statutory requirements.

The civic body is also planning to initiate action, including demolitions, against buildings found to be in a “visibly dangerous” condition during its survey of paying guest accommodations, officials aware of the matter said on Monday, adding that at least four buildings were found in such condition.

So far, around 2,453 buildings where PG facilities are operational have been identified, accommodating approximately 55,000 people, according to the civic body.

The survey is also being used to identify buildings that require repairs or further action based on their condition and compliance with building norms
