The Municipal Corporation of Delhi will roll out a series of sanitation and waste management measures on priority following directions from Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Standing Committee Chairperson Satya Sharma said on Tuesday.

Welcoming the directions issued after a high-level review meeting at the Delhi Secretariat, Sharma said the civic body will focus on upgrading public toilets, modernising waste systems and strengthening sanitation across the city.

Sharma said around 1,000 public toilets and urinal blocks under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will be upgraded with better maintenance and cleanliness standards. The corporation will also support setting up waste-to-energy and biogas plants at Ghazipur, Narela, Okhla and Tehkhand while ensuring timely implementation.

Sharma said strict enforcement of sanitation rules will occur across all zones, with action against littering. She added that steps will be taken to improve the recycling and reuse of construction and demolition waste.

The ongoing cleanliness drive along railway tracks will be intensified, she said, adding that road construction and maintenance quality will also be monitored closely.

“Our goal is to make Delhi a clean, modern, and well-organised city, for which all departments will work in coordination,” Sharma said.
