Delhi has registered the first case of monkeypox virus, which has brought the total of cases in India to four. Earlier, three cases of Monkeypox virus were found in Kerala.

According to the authorities, a 34-year-old man from the national capital, who has never traveled overseas, has tested positive for the virus.

The man recently went to a stag party in Manali, Himachal Pradesh, according to official sources, who spoke to PTI. A resident of West Delhi, he was brought to the Maulana Azad Medical College Hospital about three days ago after displaying monkeypox symptoms.

According to the sources, his samples were transferred to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune on Saturday and the results were positive. According to the sources, a contact tracing operation has been started. Previously, Kerala had been home to three cases of monkeypox.

Monkeypox had been deemed a global public health emergency of international concern by the WHO on Saturday. Despite the minimal risk of interfering with global commerce at present, WHO director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has stated that there is a “clear risk of further international spread.”

Direct or indirect contact between infected animals and people can spread the monkeypox virus. Direct, skin-to-skin, through respiratory droplet or contact with infectious skin or lesions can result in human-to-human transmission.

75 nations have recorded nearly 16,000 cases of monkeypox worldwide, and the outbreak has already resulted in five fatalities. In the WHO South-East Asia Region, one case has been found in Thailand in addition to India.
