The National Green Tribunal has directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to file a fresh disclosure specifying the exact quantity of waste accumulated at the Singhola dump site here, noting that the civic body’s previous submissions remained silent on the figure.

The green body was hearing a matter regarding improper waste management and accumulation of waste at Singhola and Bawana sites in Delhi.

In an order dated August 5, a bench of NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava and expert member Afroz Ahmad noted that the MCD had placed on record its status report regarding the Narela-Bawana Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Processing Facility.

The civic body, the bench noted, had stated that no untreated municipal solid waste is presently lying at the Narela-Bawana site and that the accumulated material consists only of Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF).

RDF is a type of combustible energy product created from municipal solid waste, commercial scrap, and industrial refuse.

Out of approximately 34,313 metric tonnes (MT) of legacy RDF retrieved from the landfill, 9,654.50 MT had been disposed of by March 2026, while the remaining material is undergoing processing and phased disposal, the bench noted.

Regarding Singhola, the tribunal said that according to the MCD, work had been awarded for setting up the processing facility at the site, and the process will start from November 2026.

The tribunal, however, said the MCD failed to disclose the specific quantity of waste or RDF currently lying at this location.

“The MCD will disclose the quantity of waste lying at the Singhola site in the next affidavit. Let the further progress report be filed at least one week before the next date of hearing (on October 14),” the tribunal said.
