
A devastating fire broke out at a building in East Delhi’s Shakarpur on Tuesday, resulting in the death of a 40-year-old woman.
Officials said that the fire originated in the building’s parking area during the early hours of the day, rapidly spreading and engulfing the entire structure.
Amidst the chaos, one woman lost her life, while rescue operation by the Delhi Fire Service saved 26 individuals and two pets. Some residents had to resort to jumping from windows to escape the flames, they said.
All the rescued individuals, including the pets, were promptly rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, they added.
According to an official from the Delhi Fire Service, upon receiving the fire distress call at approximately 1:05 am, three fire engines were immediately dispatched.
Subsequently, an additional five fire engines were summoned to the scene. Law enforcement was promptly informed about the incident, the official said. (With inputs from PTI)
