Permission to demolish Tower-J at Gurugram’s Chintels Paradiso not granted yet: Official

Permission to demolish the unsafe Tower-J at Chintels Paradiso in Gurugram’s Sector-109, which was sought by a private company, has not yet been granted, an official said on Tuesday.

The company has mobilised all necessary machinery and resources for the demolition. A company representative said the demolition process will commence once Gurugram district administration gives permission, he added.

Chintels India Private Limited wrote to the district administration on September 14 seeking permission to demolish the tower concerned, the official said.

JN Yadav, Vice President of Chintels India, met DTCP official Amit Madholia on Monday. DTCP Madholia said the necessary formalities would be completed soon and approval would be granted.

Chintels India has awarded the demolition contract for Tower-J to Edifice Engineering. Work on demolishing the unsafe tower and redeveloping the Chintels Paradiso project is set to begin soon, in accordance with the Supreme Court’s order dated September 3, 2026. The demolition process will commence only after receiving approval from the district administration, Yadav said.

The Gurugram District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) ordered the evacuation of Tower-J in 2024. This order was based on a structural audit report submitted by IIT Delhi on January 5, 2024, which highlighted the risk of reinforcement bar corrosion caused by chloride in the concrete.

The structural assessments of Paradiso’s towers were started after a vertical collapse of living rooms of flats across five floors in Tower D on Feb 10, 2022, which led to the death of two residents.

According to the DDMA order, repairing and rehabilitating Tower J was not feasible. The tower had already been vacated by around September 2025.

Other towers D, E, F, G, and H at Chintels Paradiso have already been demolished.

“All machinery and resources required to demolish Tower J have been mobilised. We are awaiting permission from the district administration and the DTCP. We met DTCP official Amit Madholia regarding this on Monday and he assured us that permission would be granted once formalities are completed. This tower had already been vacated a year ago”, Yadav said.
