In East Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar area, a foot over-bridge partially collapsed when it was struck by a crane being transported on a carriage truck, police said on Monday.

According to police, the incident occurred late Sunday night while the truck was en route from the Akshardham Temple area to Burari.

When the truck reached Pusta Road near Lalita Park, a section of the crane collided with the foot over-bridge, leading to its partial collapse, they said.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, as there were no pedestrians on the bridge or below it at the time of the incident, they added.

A police officer said that the truck driver, identified as Neeraj Kumar (28), miscalculated the bridge’s height.

He said that the truck dragged the collapsed part of the bridge for a few meters before coming to a stop.

The police swiftly responded, arresting the truck driver at the scene. A case has been registered against him under sections of negligence and rash driving, he added.(With inputs from PTI)
